On 23 September 2025, a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore visited Shelton College International, held in-depth exchanges with faculty and students, and delivered a special lecture on “Safe Study Abroad,” offering care and support to Chinese students studying in Singapore.
Guests included: Yang Gang, Consul General (Minister-Counsellor rank); Han Jun, Minister-Counsellor for Education; Xu Huayin from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Section; and Wang Yong and Shi Hui from the Education Section.

In the morning, the delegation toured the campus and held a discussion in the college’s conference room. CEO Ms. Cheng Jie introduced the college’s development, while Mr. Xu Weidong, Director of the Office of International Development and Cooperation, reviewed Shelton’s journey and achievements since its founding in 1993: from building strong partnerships with leading international universities to producing outstanding results. Through these collaborations, Shelton has opened a path for Chinese students to access Singapore’s education system and multicultural growth, helping them achieve broader prospects. As an institution registered under SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) of the Ministry of Education (MOE), Shelton College International has grown into Singapore’s largest and most comprehensive higher-education institution in film, media, and the arts.

During the meeting, Minister-Counsellor Han Jun highlighted the quality of Singapore’s higher education and its management practices, placing special emphasis on safety and well-being for Chinese students in Singapore. Ma Yun, General Manager for Quality Assurance at Shelton, then reported on the college’s EduTrust certification and the student-care measures implemented across departments. Consul General Yang Gang spoke highly of these efforts, praising the college’s contributions to supporting Chinese students since its establishment.

It is worth noting that as early as 2021, Shelton College International received care and support from the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and, for many years, has actively co-organized China National Day celebrations. Leveraging its strengths in film and media, the college has repeatedly provided filming, post-production, and visual-effects support for the Chinese Students’ Association Online Spring Festival Gala. During the pandemic, anti-epidemic songs produced by Shelton students were highly commended by the Embassy, showcasing the students’ professionalism and creativity.

In the showcase segment, students from the Broadcasting Hosting and Drama & Screen Performance (Practice and Education) programs performed an original sketch titled “Fei Cheng Wu Rao.” Through everyday situations and pitfalls Chinese students might face when renting housing in Singapore, the piece vividly wove in anti-fraud themes that resonated with the audience. Afterwards, Consul Xu Huayin from the Embassy’s Overseas Chinese Affairs Section delivered a talk, “Consular Protection on Campus: Supporting Safe Study Abroad,” using real-life cases to remind students to stay vigilant, strengthen self-protection, guard against emerging scams, and avoid telecom traps. Following the lecture, the college introduced its regular safety-education mechanism—in which officers from Singapore’s Central Police Division are invited each semester to give on-campus safety talks to safeguard students.

This visit not only reflects the Embassy’s care and attention to Chinese students in Singapore, but also provided valuable guidance on safety and personal development. Shelton College International will continue to maintain close ties with the Embassy to provide solid support for students’ academic progress and safe campus life.
